Worship in a time of COVID-19
Update: Worship will be online only for the month of April
Dear WCC Ohana,
There will be no in-person worship service at WCC this week. This was not an easy decision, but we are guided by Jesus' words: "just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me" (Matthew 25:40). We are a community of close contact with many who are most vulnerable to complications from COVID-19, and our concern for all our brothers and sisters, from healthcare professionals to residents of retirement communities and restaurant workers, drives our decisions during this pandemic.
In lieu of meeting at the church, I will offer video worship resources via email and Facebook. We will continue in the books of Paul, this week focusing on a passage from 2 Corinthians 5, in which Paul describes our "earthly tent" like a home away from home. "Do not lose heart," Paul writes. Whether it is long lines, isolation, or illness, might this time of added anxiety also be a time of inner renewal? Is this an opportunity to practice your faith outside the church walls, so that "the life of Jesus may be seen in our mortal flesh?" Wherever you are this Sunday, I hope you join me in considering these questions. Keep an eye on your email and the church Facebook page.
